At thirteen years old, I never expected to have a paranormal experience, especially not on more than one occasion.
One night me and my friend were having a sleepover, we'd had a game of secret writing so it was called, we thought it was some sort of laugh where you pretend to contact the spirit world and pretend your getting some sort of contact to try and scare your friends. We both made up a story and ended up in fits on laughter about it. Only when we both fell asleep I had an experience that chilled me to the bone.
I awoke to the sound of a crying woman, thinking something was wrong with my friend I climbed onto the bottom bunk feeling very cold and weary. She was sound asleep with a smile on her face, clearly oblivious to any noise.
I decided to go to the toilet and go into the cabinet to take a sleeping aid tablet thinking I was just over tired and hearing things.
However when I shut the cabinet door I was terrified to see an ashen face of a middle aged woman staring back at me, I dropped the tablets on the floor and ran back to the bedroom. I woke up my friend, hysterical at what I saw, she calmed me down and fell back asleep. Still feeling weary I edged from the bottom bunk to try get some sleep. When I stood, I yet again caught sight of this woman in the mirror looking back at me, this time a little boy at her side, he was wearing a sailor suit and had a lazy eye, light hair and singing a song, his presence put me at ease. And i fell to sleep thinking nothing more than a cold chill.
When i awoke in the morning, neither me or my friend mentioned the night before, and it wasnt until a month later that I had yet another experience.
Again, i was asleep and awoke to a crying noise. This time, the woman was in front of me, sat at my desk, she smiled and steadily made her way to sit on the end of my bed. She was clearly from an earlier time, she had a brown high waisted skirt, with a white ruffled shirt that fastened at the wrist. Her hair was of a brown/auburn colour and curly like it had been set in rollers. Her skin was pale and her eyes seemed cautious of me.
I tried to scream but it was like my voice had been taken from me, I sat upright too scared to move and the woman made her way towards me, she held out her hand and told me not to be scared. She spoke spoftly and tried telling me her name but All i could make out was E.. and Mc.. again i tried screaming and hid under my cover crying myself to sleep.
When my mum woke me up in the morning to go to school, my eyes were fixed on the part of the bed the woman sat on and I darent move, telling my mum of my experience she knew I wasnt joking, I was a tomboy and usually.. nothing scared me, but this time I had been terrified.
The same day at school, I came over feeling ill, I had another weary and scared feeling and tried getting someone to coe to the toilets with me, but everyone was too busy with their work and we could only go to the toilet one at a time.
The woman reappeared again, in the corridor to the toilets, and again in the mirror. Scared and confused what this woman wanted with me, I didnt know what to do and told noone.
Later that day my mum took me to one side, and said she had told my gran of my experience, when she said by nan broke down in tears. She got a picture out of her purse, the only one of this woman, and said her name was Edie Mcdowell. It was her mother and she passed away when she was 50, her favourite outfit was a high waisted ankle length brown skirt and a ruffled shirt that fastened at the wrist. The little boy was called Gordon, he was 4 years old when his nightshirt caught fire, he suffered 3rd degree burns and died in hospital later that night. He had a lazy eye, strawberry blonde hair, and as in the picture, wore a sailors outfit. It was her little brother.
He used to sing a song and swing his legs, one of the most complacent little boys you could meet.
This slowly put my mind (and nerves at ease).
My mum then later visited a clair voyant, who told her my great grandma and uncle were watching over me, my mum was her favourite of the grandkids, the most like her, and I was my mothers first born. So I would of been the first born grandchild.
She told my mum she meant no harm, just to show she was there, the spiritualist told my mother to tell me when I wanted to go to sleep to tell my grandmother I appreciated she was looking over me, but her visits scared me and that she isnt to visit until I am ready.
That same night I repeated those words 3 times, I havent seen my grandmother or little gordan since.
Ive been told I will recieve another visit, but only when Im ready to embrace the situation.
Im still not ready, i still fill up and feel the same scared feeling when I think of the situation, and im nearly 19 now. Maybe one day I will speak to her again, but until then Ill just stick to feeling their presence and knowing that they are there for me.
