Mark Foster: Joseph, how do we go about letting go of the negative aspects of ourselves and those things that we realise we are not?
Joseph: There should be no fight in your relinquishing of the things that you are not. Unfortunately, your view of what you are not and what you are is influenced so much by religion. You are told by many of the religions that this is the way to act and this is the way not to act, and your conventional views through religion of how you should act and how you should not act have nothing to do (or little to do) with how you should act and how you should not act as a spirit.
You have tools that you can use during your earthly life: you have the positive ray - the positive energy and you have the negative ray - the negative energy. You are in control of those but you are told as souls that you are either one or the other and that you should extinguish one and embrace the other, and in doing this - in attempting to do this (because in truth you cannot do this) you cause problems for yourselves.
The way to eliminate those aspects of yourself that you see as hindering your spiritual evolution is to love them. You cannot change by attempting to expel an aspect of yourself; you cannot take out a section of your soul with a pair of scissors and free it from yourself saying, ‘That is no longer part of me’. That is impossible and that is where souls go wrong in attempting to evolve. What you should do is look at yourself and say: ‘There are positive aspects of me but I am not the positive aspects; there are negative aspects in me but I am not the negative aspects. These things are my tools, these things are my opportunities to grow and when I look at myself and I wish to change, I should not alienate that aspect of myself and perpetuate that aspect of myself that I want to change by abhorring it. Instead I must say that that area needs to change; it is part of me and I embrace it. In my quiet times and my meditations I bathe in love those aspects of myself that I wish to transmute’. In embracing yourself as a total soul with positive and negative at its command, you come to a point of peace and understanding.
In looking at your negative aspects (or so-called negative aspects) in this way, by embracing them in love and in light - rather than trying to expel them or fearing them or trying to put a wall up between you and this aspect of yourself that seems to cause so much trouble - you begin to understand what the negative aspect of yourself is for. Through that aspect of yourself you understand an aspect of evolution; you begin to understand why you act in that way and, in understanding why you act in that way, you learn how to act in a different way. But that change has to come through embracing what you are, and ‘embracing what you are’ does not mean that you repeat an action or thought that you feel is wrong for you but it means that, when that thought or that action occurs to you, you do not fear it. You take it into yourself, you bathe it in the light of your soul that is connected to God-light and in doing that you begin to understand yourself.
You see that so much damage is done by religion trying to separate what it sees as good from what it sees as bad. You cannot separate yourself; you cannot tear yourself apart. Wasn’t it Jesus who said that a house divided against itself cannot stand? This is what he meant - you have to embrace your total perception; you have to embrace all aspects of yourself and not fear them. In not fearing them, those aspects of yourself that need to fall away so that you can progress, will fall away because when they are bathed in light they have no power - except the power of good, except the power of God, except the power to do good…to you and to the souls around you. Am I making sense?
Mark: So, if I was to embrace the concept of just loving myself completely would that help the process?
Joseph: Yes, that is exactly what I am saying and remember that the ‘yourself’ we are talking about is not the yourself that needs to eat; that thinks it needs a particular amount of money; that needs the warmth; that needs the house; that needs the companionship - the yourself I am talking about is the true self. So you are not aggrandising the ego by loving yourself; you are feeding yourself with light and this is what all souls need around the earth – to be fed by light. Instead they feed from each other, instead they feed from the Field and you have the present situation of violence, and negativity, and illness, and sickness.
Days should be bright things; souls should enjoy their days on earth. There should be upliftment, there should be a knowledge of God, a knowledge of love and a knowledge that each soul is on a journey and that journey will not bring any harm to it, that there is nothing to worry about, nothing to be downcast about and that everything is in its right place. Souls do not have access to these types of days because they do not understand how to become whole or to acknowledge their wholeness (of course they are whole but earthly society seeks to strip off bits of the soul and this cannot happen). The soul has to acknowledge itself as complete and examine its aspects within a field of love and then the aspects that the soul needs to drop…melt away. Do you see that?
Mark: Yes, that was most helpful.
Joseph: Has that answered your question?
Mark: Very clearly, thank you.
